According to Trisha Bolden,“My Barbizon experience was PHENOMENAL! Before Barbizon, I was extremely shy, not very confident and dreaded walking in heels. Upon graduating from Barbizon, I started high school and was honestly able to stand out just from the skills I gained from the program.” Trisha graduated from Barbizon USA of Birmingham, AL in 2010. Here is her Barbizon story!

What were your Barbizon classes like?
Wow, my classes were amazing. I learned the basic techniques of modeling, how to angle my face and body for perfect pose. Our makeup courses were so fun. We learned how to apply makeup “properly” for every occasion including job interviews. We were trained by some of the best for runway. I’ve never felt so comfortable and confident than I did on a Barbizon stage! We learned how to eat clean and nutritious meals, working to stay in shape, and most importantly etiquette sessions. It was so fulfilling just learning how to be a lady and my classes did that. It’s stuck with me careerwise and as an adult woman.

What did you gain from your Barbizon experience?
My Barbizon experience was PHENOMENAL! Before Barbizon, I was extremely shy, not very confident and dreaded walking in heels. Upon graduating from Barbizon, I started high school and was honestly able to stand out just from the skills I gained from program. I was molded and well educated on beauty tips, preparing comp cards, getting booked with agents and modeling professionally. I received modeling and acting opportunities throughout high school and college. My first major booked show was Atlanta Fashion Week and among 24 year olds, I was just 18 and dedicated to ripping the runway with class! I certainly developed from a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly with Barbizon.

Would you recommend Barbizon to a friend?
Absolutely. I have friends who have daughters as well as my nieces that I would like to experience Barbizon. As they continue growing up in such an ideal world, I want them prepared to always carry themselves as young ladies and gain the confidence to know they can be anything they want in life! Barbizon taught more than the beauty side of things. Barbizon teaches life lessons such as hard work and dedication, that every girl in the world should experience and being with educators who really care and want to see you shine like a diamond.

What have you been doing since graduating?
After graduation, I signed with two agencies and began booking modeling work and found myself as a fresh high school graduate driving to different cities modeling both print and runway. I modeled for Black Russian Label in Atlanta Fashion Week. As of today, I’ve signed with Inspire Magazine and have been doing amazing red carpet interviews and media corresponding.

Whether you are starting a new job, transferring to a new school, joining a new club or have dreams of becoming an actor or a model, overcoming shyness is something  everyone has to do at some point. You can be confident in who you are and what you have to offer the world as you teach yourself that shyness doesn’t have to keep you from reaching your goals.

We have a few tips that can help you overcome being shy.

Practice with your friends and family
Pay attention and learn from the way you make small talk with people you are already comfortable around. Also keep in mind that body language has a lot to do with how you are perceived and whether or not you seem approachable. Try to not cross your arms in front of your chest when talking with others.

Make Eye Contact and Smile
When you are in a room where you don’t know anyone, making eye contact and smiling helps you seem more confident. Sometimes if you look the role, it becomes easier to act that way!

Think Of Conversation Starters
It can be hard to think of things to talk about when you are in a situation where you aren’t completely comfortable. Think of a few conversation starters, whether they are compliments or questions, to keep on hand.

Study Role Models
Learn by watching how people you look up to do things. Pay attention to how others work a room and meet new people and see if there are any traits or conversation points you can pick up on.

Remember You Are Not Alone
You are not the only person who deals with shyness. Many people often have the challenge of meeting new people and overcoming uncomfortable situations.

Interview with Actress, Model, Philanthropist, Pageant Title Holder & Barbizon Alum, Allison Dae

Most seventeen-year-old girls are nervous about what college they are going to attend or who is asking them to prom.

Allison Dae is not like most girls.

Her family has been involved with Barbizon Modeling and Acting since before she was born. Naturally, this led her toward the beginning of her modeling and acting career.

Allison wears many hats. She is a junior at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts, while also taking academic courses through an online program. Not only is she acting and studying, she also founded a nonprofit company dedicated to finding a cure for Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritiscalled More Than A Percentage.

“I only go to a brick and mortar school two days a week to study fine arts and to act,” Allison said. “This allows me the flexibility to be able to handle my nonprofit More Than A Percentage and act.”

Talk about a superstar.

Allison was a young age when she started to model, appearing on toy box covers and more. Modeling became her gateway to pageantry.

“I entered pageantry with the goal to win a national title, and after a few years of hard work, I became Miss Jr. America Jr. Teen.”

Eventually, Allison received enough recognition that enabled her to start a nonprofit.

However, to this day, acting remains one of Allison’s most beloved passions.

“I have been fortunate enough to book many projects and travel to Los Angeles for numerous roles and opportunities.”

Yes, at seventeen, Allison has found more success than most, but she still does have fangirl moments. She was once on set for a Calvin Klein campaign where the model turned out to be Cameron Dallas. Everyone—Allison included—was surprised.

“My favorite job was the Calvin Klein campaign with Cameron Dallas. When we got to set in LA, all we knew was that we were there for a photo shoot. We had no idea who the designer was or who the celebrity model was.”

When the model was revealed, Allison was thrilled.

“Cameron Dallas, who happened to be one of my favorite influencers at the time, came on set. We were so surprised and excited. I was posted on the Calvin Klein Instagram page with a picture of Cameron kissing my cheek!”

Allison is always striving to be a better model and actress.

“I have discovered that with each new level you reach in the industry, there is still a higher level you are reaching for. For example, the first time you see yourself on TV is very exciting, but then you are encouraged to land a bigger role.”

Four years ago, Allison started raising money to fulfill her dream of starting her own charity by competing in pageants and trying to win a national goal. The hard work paid off. Today, she is the proud founder of More Than A Percentage, an official non-profit with 501(c)(3) status.

“The name ‘More Than A Percentage’ has a deeper meaning to me,” Allison explains. “Throughout my treatment, I learned that I am in the 10% of kids who have Systemic Onset Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. I felt boxed into this statistic and saw myself as that number.”

Allison is more than a number, more than a percentage, and she wanted to show others that they were not alone in this feeling. Everyone has a label, but Allison wanted to break away from this boxed-in idea.

“I want to encourage people to rise up and break out of their boundaries so they can reach their full potential.”

Even though Allison is constantly juggling her career, school and her organization, she feels grateful to be able to give her whole heart to the two things that she is passionate about while being able to watch them “flourish right in front of [her] eyes.”

More Than A Percentage’s first main event is this June.

“This year’s goal is to raise a minimum of $50,000. We have already received support from local businesses and individuals.”

Looking into the future, Allison hopes to be funding a researcher who is solely dedicated to finding a cure for Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. She wants those who are affected to feel comfortable standing up to the disease and always knowing that they are more than a percentage. That a label or statistic will not define them.

“I hope to inspire individuals to keep pushing forward in times of need.”

She may have high hopes for her organization, but she also wants to attend university. Her wearing-many-hats challenge will carry on as she pursues a degree, acts and runs a nonprofit.

Allison is the full embodiment of setting goals and accomplishing what one sets out to do.

“Never let anyone tell you that you cannot do something. If you have a goal that you’re passionate about and the dedication to work toward it, anything is possible. The best thing I’ve learned is never take ‘no’ for an answer!”

When I asked Francesca how her Barbizon experience was, she replied, “Barbizon helped me believe in myself and showed me the importance of being comfortable in my own skin.” Check out this interview with with this Barbizon girl to see what she’s been up to in modeling and more!

 What were your Barbizon classes like? 
I learned many new things, such as makeup, how to properly take care of yourself, poses, the importance of timelines and being presentable at all times, table etiquette, and my favorite……the RUNWAY.

The classes were a blast. I met so many friends who I am still close with. I love going to an audition and seeing them there. We always give each other a hug and root for each other on…even though we’re there for the same part.

What did you gain from your Barbizon experience?
I was a shy young lady, unable to get out of my “comfort zone” and lacked confidence. Barbizon helped me believe in myself and showed me the importance of being comfortable in my own skin. Even though I am still shy, I can confidently enter a room, talk to people, and engage with my surroundings. I realized that I do not have to look or be like anyone else because I am beautiful inside and out. No one can take that away from me. It is important to embrace life and everyday is a blessing. And most of all… always have fun.

 Congratulations on winning Coastal Fashion Week’s The Movement Tampa Show! How did it feel to win?
I was extremely surprised and shocked. All of the models did such a wonderful job. I could not believe that I was chosen because I am still working on growing my skills. I feel wonderful and blessed. This experience has solidified that all of my hard work is paying off. I will strive to obtain knowledge and do my best.

What else have you been doing since graduating from Barbizon?
I have been having so much fun, meeting famous actors on set of short movies and major features. I am submitting a lot of self tape auditions through my agents and networks, as well as attending many auditions.

I filmed in an independent short film that is being shown in film festivals and in a feature film coming out in February 2020! I have also been booked for a toy commercial.

Regarding modeling, I was crowned Miss Clermont Pre-Teen 2018. I booked a print job for Champs Sports Kids in January 2019. I walked the runway for a Halloween show 2018, ‘Deck the Runway’ fashion show 2018, Fierce Entertainment ‘Seeded for Compassion’ fashion show, ‘Orlando Spring Fashion week 2019,’ and ‘Coastal Fashion Week: The Movement’ Tampa 2019.

I love wearing all the awesome designs from talented people, at these different venues. It is even better yet, when I see my friends from Barbizon there as well.

 I am currently signed with fabulous agents from the Barbizon Competitions including: BGMGlobal ORLANDO and Modern Muse. Additionally, I am represented by Central Florida Talent and Dan Talent Agency.

What are your goals for the future?
I have many interests. I enjoy modeling and acting so this is a definite goal… mostly modeling. I just love wearing the clothes, shoes etc. It makes me feel good when I am able to convey someone’s hard work and creations.

Education is important to me. I have not decided yet what my focus will be, but college is a must!

There are times in life when the right opportunity just falls into your lap. And for Natalia Brzozowski, her chance to start off 2020 following her dreams came in the form of Barbizon’s Get Discovered contest. As our 2019 winner, Natalia modeled for a photoshoot in Girls’ Life magazine and visited the epicenter of the acting and modeling world on a trip to L.A.!

As a former Barbizon graduate, we wanted to get to know Natalia a little bit better, from her likes and dislikes to her style habits and, of course, her reasons for pursuing modeling. So come dive in with us to learn more about Natalia in this exclusive interview. And you can even picture yourself in her shoes as the winner of Barbizon’s Get Discovered 2020 contest!

What do you love about modeling?
I love being a part of someone’s artistic vision – (and sometimes even my own) and creating/capturing something cool or beautiful. Of course, I also love traveling and meeting new people as well.

Where do you like to shop?
Zara, Marshalls, thrift shops, and online boutiques

Where is your favorite place you have ever visited?
Singapore and Chicago

Who is your celeb crush?
Theo James, Keith Powers, and Elias Riadi

Which living person do you admire most?
My grandma and mom. They are both ambitious, spirited women who have led me to where I am today and taught me countless lessons.

What is your favorite single item to shop for?
Jeans. Maybe sneakers as well…

How would you describe your style?
A mix of classy and street. I’m still figuring it out, though, and it’s a unique mixture of everything I like.

What is your favorite accessory?
Simple gold jewelry. I have small gold hoops and a little chain that I never take off.

Do you have any hidden talents?
Not very hidden, but I speak Chinese (and some French), and rock climb.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Innovative, ambitious, inquisitive

What is your biggest dream?
To travel and make an impact wherever I go – whether that be as a model or businesswoman or something else.

What three cities would you most like to visit?
New York, Marrakech, Venice

What is your favorite food?
Anything sweet.

If you had to wear one pair of shoes in your closet forever, what pair would you choose?

Who inspires you in modeling?
First and foremost, my mother. She got me into modeling and has been by my side as a line of support and guidance ever since. Beyond that, I look up to models who use their platform to spread positivity and raise awareness on important matters – Zendaya, Cara Delevingne, Ashley Graham, Paloma Elsesser, Adut Akech – as well as models that I’ve met along my journey who are chasing their dreams of being not only models, but also authors, and influencers, and engineers.
